Precise Sound Design in the Heart of the Basque Country

“Frontón” refers to the traditional courts in the Basque Country used for the ball sport Pelota. A particularly fast-paced version of the game became internationally known as Jai Alai, even making its way into pop culture – for example, through scenes in Miami Vice. Today, many frontón halls are more than just sports venues – they are cultural hubs, architecturally striking spaces, and are now frequently used for concerts, culinary experiences, and various events.

Such is the case with the Restaurant Frontón Tolosa, located in the heart of the city of Tolosa. In March 2025, a new audio system was installed here with a clear objective: to elevate the sound quality for background music, events, and weekend DJ sets to a new level.

The challenge: achieving a balanced and evenly distributed sound image in a space with unique acoustics, reflections, absorptions, and resulting differences in sound pressure levels.

The solution: precision work with system

For the technical implementation, the team at Electricidad Zumeta relied on the expertise of Soinua, who ensured through careful planning and meticulous tuning that the system could perform at its best.

Installed was a compact, powerful TWAUDiO system consisting of eight M8i, two M10i, and three B14i units.

The setup impressed with its excellent sound quality, discreet visual presence, and compact size – an ideal fit for the stylish atmosphere of the Frontón.

For optimization, Smaart V9 and an Earthworks M23 measurement microphone were used. This allowed for precise frequency analysis, accurate time alignment, and optimal level adjustment. The result: balanced and precise audio, evenly distributed throughout the venue – clearly audible in every application.

Positive feedback all around

The new system has been enthusiastically received by all involved – technicians, venue staff, and guests alike. Frontón Tolosa is now acoustically and technologically well-equipped for upcoming events.
