TWAUDiO goes to the Extreme in Kuala Lumpur

Now touring the world ahead of the release of a long-awaited new album, one of the biggest rock bands of the 1990s, Extreme, recently arrived in Kuala Lumpur for a sold-out headline performance at KL Life Centre – marking the US band’s first ever show in Malaysia. With anticipation running high, the four-piece band left fans thrilled with a signature blend of funk rhythms and unforgettable melodies, all played through a powerful TW AUDiO VERA36 sound reinforcement solution.

Formed in Massachusetts in 1985, Extreme soon rose to global fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s, drawing on influences including Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin and Queen to produce international hits such as "Get The Funk Out", "Hole Hearted" and "More Than Words". Today the band comprises founder members Gary Cherone and Nuno Bettencourt on vocals and guitar respectively, alongside bassist Pat Badger and drummer Kevin Figueiredo.

For the appearance in Kuala Lumpur, the event’s organiser, IMC Live Group, knew that fans would demand nothing but the best for the band’s Malaysian debut. The company charged with ensuring the concert lived up to those expectations was leading regional production company Drum Asia Sdn Bhd, whose Co-Director, Nicholas Thomas Philip, turned to TW AUDiO for the solution.

“The set-up of the TW AUDiO system went very smoothly,” he enthused. “The line array system was easy to rig, we had it flying in no time.”

Forming the heart of the solution were 18 VERA36 line array elements flown nine per side in a left-right configuration, while a single T24N enclosure plus two B30 bass elements per side served as side-fills. Chest pounding low-end extension was delivered courtesy of six BSX and four S33 subwoofers. Finally, on stage sound was delivered by seven C15 wedges. Power for the system was via five Lab.gruppen PLM 20000Q and four PLM 10000Q amplifiers.

As Extreme closed the show to a rapturously received rendition of More Than Words, Drum Asia’s Co-Director Mathew Thomas Philip was equally delighted with the performance of the VERA36 system.

“We are extremely pleased with the performance of the TW AUDiO VERA36 speakers – the Extreme concert really rocked,” he declared. “Most importantly, VERA36 did all the talking for our company and made us look great. We expect repeat business from this promoter!”
